Born in 1940. He belonged to the Nihon University Film Study Club at Nihon University College of Art, and went on to work as a cinematographer and director. His works as a cinematographer include After Life (directed by Koreeda Hirokazu, 1999), and Artist of Fasting (directed by Adachi Masao, 2016). Directorial works include Torso (2010).
