Born in 1972 in Yamanashi Prefecture,
TOMITA Katsuya directed Above the Clouds
(2003), his first work, and Off Highway 20
(2007) before releasing Saudade (2011), which
won the Golden Montgolfiere at the Festival
of the Three Continents, the Special Jury Prize
at the Locarno International Film Festival,
Best Picture at the Takasaki Film Festival,
and Excellence Film and Best Director at the
Mainichi Film Awards. Recent works include
Chiang Rai Girl (an omnibus film with Own
Night with a Shooting Star; 2012).
