Claudrena N. Harold is Chair of the History Department and Professor of African American and African Studies & History at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. She is the author of New Negro Politics in the Jim Crow South (2016); The Rise and Fall of the Garvey Movement in the Urban South, 1918-1942 (2007); and an upcoming book on gospel music.
