Hasegawa graduated from the Kyoto University School of Law and also the Graduate School of Tokyo University of the Arts. Having established the 21 st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, she is currently a board member of the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, as well as professor at the Graduate School of Global Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts. Her recent exhibitions include Fukami: A Plunge into Japanese Aesthetics (Hotel Salomon de Rothschild, Paris, 2018), Intimate Distance. Masterpieces from the Ishikawa Collection (Montpellier Contemporain, France, 2019), and Desire: A Revision from the 20th Century to the Digital Age (National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin, 2019). Among the books she has published are Naze? Kara Hajimaru Gendai Aato (“Contemprary Art that Begins with “Why?”, NHK Publishing, Inc., 2011) and Hakai-shini to Kanojo-tachi wa Iu ̶ Yawaraka ni Kyokai o Oudan Suru Josei Aachisuto Tachi (“They Say ‘To Destroy’─Female Artists who Discreetly Cross the Boundaries,” Tokyo University of the Arts Publishing, 2017).
