Born 1963 in Fukushima Prefecture. After establishing MEM in Osaka in 1997, Ishida began showcasing Kansai region’s contemporary art of the 1980 s. Today, the gallery presents art and photography by contemporary artists from Japan and abroad, including those who came into recognition after the 1980 s. Additionally, he studied the genealogy of modern avant-garde photography from pre – to post -World War II, and hosted a special exhibition related to his findings. In 2010, he relocated his gallery from Osaka to Ebisu, Tokyo, and he currently promotes the activities of MEM internationally by participating in a variety of overseas art fairs, including Paris Photo.
