Writer-director, born 1989 in Kaili City, Guizhou Province, People’s Republic of China. In 2013, his short film The Poet and Singer (2012) received a Special Mention in the Asian New Force Category at the 19th IFVA Festival. His critically acclaimed debut feature Kaili Blues (2015) won the Best Emerging Director Award at the 68th Festival del film Locarno, the Montgolfière d’Or Award at the 37th Festival des 3 Continents, and the Best New Director Award at the 52nd Golden Horse Awards, among others. It was sold internationally, and shown at numerous film festivals. His second feature film Long Day’s Journey Into Night (2017), a Chinese-French coproduction, makes its premiere at Un Certain Regard, 71st Festival de Cannes.
