The LUMIÈRE Brothers (Auguste and Louis LUMIÈRE)

French inventors. Auguste was born in 1862 in Besançon, and died in 1954. Louis was born in 1864 in Besançon, and died in 1948. Together they invented the cinematograph, a device based on clock technology that combined a film camera and a projector. This was a prototype of the type of projector that is still used for movie screenings today. The brothers are further known for establishing their own agency, and dispatching cameramen and projectionists to places around the globe, including Japan, to capture local scenes and sceneries on film.
