Since 2004, Dohi Etsuko has hosted a variety of film-related workshops under the theme “a Bright Future for children and film.” At the Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions 2019, she will host an interactive viewing workshop for elementary school students titled “Children Meet Cinema: Ciné-club.” The film viewed will be Buster Keaton’s Sherlock, Jr. After extensive discussion of the movie, participants will form teams that reproduce one scene of the movie, even shooting and screening it. Using teamwork to express what they felt, and by recognizing and sharing the different perspectives of others, participants will newly discover the appeal of this work and the joy of its appreciation.
