Books on Books (2013-) is a work composed of animations and covers for
European secondhand books, based on a 1988 publication owned by the artist’
s father called Book Cover Collection in the West. Recycled (2013) is an animated
film made with over 3,000 photos which LEI selected from among many
photos salvaged by Thomas SAUVIN from a recycling plant outside Beijing,
capturing the daily lives of average townspeople. Through meticulous
animation, both of these works give new life to the special feelings that
ordinary people held towards books and photos, which are reproductions/reproduction media.
