The works in this program variously imagine the co-existence of the past and present through meditations on site-specific encounters. From the trauma of post-war Vietnam expressed through song from the bedroom of a teenage girl in Tyrant Star, to the dances moves performed at a historical gathering spot for black students at the University of Virginia in the 80s in Black Bus Stop, these works also treat colonial traces, Gauguin recreations, and contemporary Marquesan life in Color-Blind, as well as the speculative community of Moroccan immigrants on a fictitious island in Party on the CAPS.
