A monument inscribed with a haiku was built on the summit of Mt. Fuji on August 20, 1974. It was a project many considered reckless—that a single individual would carry a giant stone to the highest peak of this mountain, the “symbol of Japan” that has been worshipped since ancient times. This is a story of three generations of fathers and sons and the dream held by haiku poets.
