ECTO is a film by Watanabe Takuma, an active musician in and out of Japan, who directed, wrote, edited and composed its music. His activities include composing for numerous films, however, ECTO became his first film to direct. Characters in the film wanders around an ambiguous and perplexing world surrounding a botanical garden. The title of this film comes from ectoplasm, “ecto” meaning “outside” and “plasm” meaning “substance” in Greek. The work completes with live string performance, and attempts to discover the new relationship between film and music, expanding audiences’ experience in an unprecedented appreciation.
