Doors

Doors is a performance by photographer Yamatani Yusuke, combining elements of drumming and photo shooting. Several cameras are set up around a drum kit, to be triggered via sensors each time Yamatani hits one of the drums. The resulting images that capture the artist himself and the scenery surrounding him playing the drums, accompanied by intense stroboscopic light, are printed out using multiple printers that are connected to the cameras. The performance highlights the consciousness and unconsciousness of the artist, watching and at once being watched, in front of the camera and the audience. It has been staged at art festivals and galleries in Japan and abroad, including a tour around Europe in 2019.
