Born 1899 in Osaka, died 1995. Graduated from Tokyo Women’s Art School in 1918 with a bachelor’s degree in Japanese painting, and later worked in Western-style painting and photography. In 1926, she went to the USA to study painting at the California School of Fine Arts, and became an assistant to photographer Consuelo Kanaga. She returned to Japan in 1929. After opening her studio in Osaka in 1931, she made numerous portraits of celebrities and cultural figures of the time. After the end of the war, she worked on commercial photography, and from around 1960, began to focus on abstract photography, creating innovative works characterized by abstract colors and spatial perception.
