FUKAGAWA Katsuzo
Born in Tokyo around 1924. In 1926 (at the age of 3), he became deaf and mute after contracting encephalitis due to fever. Graduated from the dressmaking department of the Tokyo School for the Deaf and the Blind. In 1950, he launched the deaf-mute theater Higashiogi-za, and in 1960 (at the age of 34), he founded the Mutsumi Deaf-Mute Film and Theater Study Group and produced five films. He died of a subarachnoid hemorrhage in 1985 at the age of 61, leaving behind Takikibi.
