Video artist/theorist. Born 1972 in Osaka, Japan. Kawai creates video works in a unique style that offers philosophical visions of electronic image and radical criticism on the media society. He develops his broad-ranging activities unconstrained by such genres as film, contemporary art, and live performances, and has shown them worldwide. Kawai also published the first theoretical graph in Japan on video art, Reflexion – The Practical Aesthetics of Video Art (2018). He received BA in aesthetics and an MA in representation and culture from the University of Tokyo.
