The “Shashinzo” series, which a photo book with the same title also showcased in 1984, mainly consists of photographs of high-rise buildings, construction sites, bridge piers, and other massive architectural objects that assume fundamental roles in both everyday life and industrial activity. Characterized by the square format of 6 x 6 cm film, the images here focus on details or surfaces rather than on the respective structures as a whole, and thereby highlight the inorganic nature of architecture. There are only few plants in these cityscapes, and even the droplets on their leaves appear crystallized like reinforcing steel sticking out from the concrete at a construction site.
