As part of the “American Boyfriend” project, Futoshi Miyagi’s lifework that presents diverse fluctuations and emotions as a sexual minority at the margins of society, a combined program of screenings and performances titled “For a Stranger” will explore new relationships between the invisible cultural and historical conflicts and isolation in contemporary society, and the actions and feelings of individuals who resist them. The program will consist of video works by Hana Quinlan & Rosie Hastings shown for the first time in Japan, a reading performance by novelist Takayama Hanako, as well as Miyagi’s own new video and newly written texts. After the “American Boyfriend” program on the last day of the festival, a limited number of printed materials that include Miyagi’s text will be added to the exhibition, connecting the screenings with the works in the exhibition rooms.
Dates: February 2 – 18, 2024, 10:00–20:00 (Until 18:00 on the final day)
Closed on Mondays [Please note the exhibition is open on Monday, February 12 but closed on Tuesday, February 13]
