Under the theme of “shaping the subject as an Asian in the 21st Century,” Asian artists from Hong Kong and Los Angeles gathered to create collaborative scripts. The artists will present new participatory performances connected to universal propositions faced by everyone based on Arakawa-Nash’s own identity and experience of going to the U.S., such as what lies “between” various emotions and sensibilities, and the question of how knowledge acquired through schooling (art education) can be returned to one’s own sphere of action. The performances, which will take place several times throughout the exhibition, will be composed of multiple performance modes, exploring the core of these issues from various angles. A new sculpture appropriated from Mike Kelley’s soft sculpture will also be used in the performance.
