In its early days, the noted TV travel show I Want to Go Far Away (Tohku e Ikitai) was a pioneering practice that transcended the limitations of television media. Wielding a state-of-the-art camera that recorded both video and sound, cameraman Sato Toshiaki captured the features of Ei Rokusuke, Konno Tsutomu, and the Iwate area. Another Journey (Mo Hitotsu no Tabi) with Tanikawa Shuntaro and Itami Juzo questions the idea of “discovering Japan” through tourism by following the artists wandering around the countryside. In My Shimokita (Ore no Shimokita), Imamura Shohei visits the hometown of his mentor, Kawashima Yuzo, and struts around Mt. Osore. An unbroadcast episode by the legendary filmmaker Sato Teru will also be screened.
