In Myanmar, the conflict between the Rohingya, a Muslim minority living in the western part of the country, and local Buddhists has intensified since 2016. Undeterred by the ongoing fighting, a Buddhist midwife and her Muslim apprentice decide to start providing medical services at a clinic in the conflict zone. To create MIDWIVES, the director returned to her homeland and spent five years documenting the two midwives from different backgrounds. Imbued with her unique perspective, the documentary offers a ray of hope for the troubled society of Myanmar.
